Edward Koo, M.D.

Dr. Koo is a board-certified comprehensive Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He is an alumnus of the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Koo completed a residency in Pediatrics at UCLA followed by an Ophthalmology residency in Boston at the New England Eye Center at Tufts University School of Medicine.

Dr. Koo performs sutureless cataract surgery, Lasik, and refractive surgery. He also teaches as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF. Dr Koo has won awards and patents for his designs in cataract micro-surgical instruments and has published articles on his surgical procedures.

Dr. Koo enjoys tennis, skiing, and has a 1st degree black belt in Tang Soo Do Karate. He and his wife have just welcomed their second daughter.



Kenneth C. Chern, M.D., MBA

Dr. Chern is a board-certified comprehensive Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and corneal diseases. Dr. Chern graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. His residency was at the Cleveland Clinic; followed by a fellowship in corneal diseases at Francis I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California at San Francisco. He is the only ophthalmologist in the area with this type of specialized fellowship training and experience.

In addition to LASIK and refractive surgery, Dr. Chern performs corneal transplantation, small-incision cataract surgery, and reconstruction of the ocular surface. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF and has published four books on the fundamentals of ophthalmology.

Dr. Chern and his wife have just welcomed a new son. In their free time they enjoy gourmet cooking, cycling and cross country skiing.



Mary Ellen Bailey, O.D.

Dr. Bailey received her pre-optometric education at University of Arizona in Tucson. She received her optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California and she regularly attends continuing education courses at the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in contact lenses. She has been seeing patients in this practice for 30 years.



Michelle Blas, O.D.

Dr. Blas received her training at the SUNY College of Optometry. Originally from New York, Dr Blas has been in the Bay Area for over 8 years and enjoys the theater and artisinal baking.



Heather Van Dervort

As our Optical Manager, Heather brings over 15 years of optical experience to our boutique. She enjoys traveling with her husband, reading biographies and spoiling her dog.



Marcie Patten

Marcie has over twenty years ophthalmic industry experience as an optician, optical manager and trainer. She takes great satisfaction and enjoys helping her patients select eyewear that is complimentary to their face and making lens recommendations that provide the best visual solution for their specific lifestyle needs.

Marcie has 2 sons, 17 and 18 years old, who keep her busy, however she does find time to relax in the garden, and on occasion gaze at the stars with her telescope. She is also very proud of her gem and mineral collection which she has been collecting since she was 18 years old.
